The Modern Consumer

Hi all...
In this blog post I will be looking at how the consumer has drastically changed over time. There is a number of options into how the consumer has changed, perhaps for the better over a number of years & there is plenty of reasons why.

The customer has now become the dictator. Years ago business were certainly the dictator to the customer & the business. They would tell the customer on what they should buy and advice on what would look good on them. But not anymore. Here is reason number one and that is to do with technology. 'The Digital World' as it were has a lot to do with the younger consumer and this type of consumer is bigger than ever before, perhaps this is our most important consumer as the millennials are changing the way we do stuff. The digital world is shaping the modern consumer and today’s consumer is connected than ever before. Changing the retail landscape since the internet went mainstream, consumer behaviour has changed substantially over the past 10 years which led to retailers no longer controlling the conversation. Since the rising of shopping online began, The modern consumer demands honesty from online brands as honestly, loyalty and sincerity are the top values that people are seeking from brands.
Social media (number two) has now become a massive impact on society and retail that has more than likely thrown away the traditional consumer. Although social media does help highlight the key issues in the world that we didn't already know, so we should start caring more about what we buy. Issues such as animal testing, sustainability and keep everything natural are issues that are the major issues are aware of so far. Personally, I do like to keep updated with my social media and that does mean I am aware of the key issues that should be resolved.
Introducing reason number three which is to do online shopping. Businesses are now realise that they will perhaps lose a majority of their customers if they don't have an online store. Since shopping online is now the new thing, I think it is recommended that businesses need to have a connection with social media. Otherwise businesses may have to wave goodbye. Businesses will have to be dedicated to keep up with everyone's tastes and trends.

Another reason which I do like as I do use this option is that people rely on other people's opinions. Whether this is a trustworthy opinion or not people are influenced by the 'word of mouth' advertisement. Personally I sometimes rely on Youtubers product reviews as these are people who inspire the young millennial so you're bound to make a negative or positive judgement on a product.
I hope this was worth the read!

With Love,
