Botanical has just about stuck around. But somehow you may have seen more of it through the years as it's been revealed through the latest garments. Whatever the season is, botanical is one thing to stick to. So invite florals and foliage back into your life as botanical everything is coming back and taking the stage with colourful blossoms and vibrant leafy patterns. So how did botanical come about to us?
This craft was mastered way back during the 18th century and has pretty much stuck to us from time to time. The 18th century was fully known as the golden period for Botanical Illustrations.
Now there's a bit of history for you!
As the range of materials and media were broadened by artists influenced by Georg Dionysius - A botanist and entomologist (as far as I'm aware) people managed to bring a new form of beauty into illustrations.
It was only throughout the 19th and 20th centuries a major shift during the Victorian era witnessed a love for the more decorative arts. Illustration became a less significant opponent to the development of photography.
Today, botanical prints and illustration is becoming better understood. Since the 18th Century we have marvelled over the use of vivid detail and vibrant colours. Nature's finest is at our hands.
Contemporary Botanical, a swift movement that was developed by the increased number of artists who were portraying all aspects of plant life.
So what is Contemporary Botanical? It is simply recognised as floral art in it's botanical accuracy and vivid detail of plants. It Is just identified more to be largely graphic and tonal.
Enough about the history, let's talk a few things about the fashion. This year fashion takes its toll on the bigger, the bolder botanical.
The modern botanical is never limited, it is a trend that extends it's prints with muted palettes using fantastic florals or can even be extra ordinary as we adore mother nature with vibrant foliage shapes.
Nature has a persistent, healthy influence over design. So again it is time for leaf, floral and insect prints to make an appearance in our wardrobe.
I reckon tropical prints are set to be a trend this spring.
