VOGUE, DEC 2010 'STAR SIGNS' BY PHOTOGRAPHER TIM GUTT
One of the many tasks while studying Fashion Communication and Promotion was to achieve and create a 'Vogue' style photo shoot. In the meantime as a group we looked at past Vogue editions, this one in particular from December 2010's issue of Vogue.
THEATRICAL SURREALISM KITSCH FEMININE FABLE
We each discussed and picked five words in which we though best describe Gutt's style of the shoot.
'Star Signs' purposefully indicates that each star sign links to their own symbols. With the help of props, accessories and fashion taste, this theatrical idea is less of a blur. Gutt's style overall for this idea was obviously studio based only using just a singular model in each photograph, all models being female. This is best described as playful, staged and muted material. I say muted due to the colour palette used. This may not look muted to anybody else as it is hidden between the photographs. The colour palette is soft and is gentle with the pale pink, blue, lilac and green.
Photographer Tim Gutt must enjoy his use of staged, playful and surrealist style. However I find there to be a lack of knowledge and minimal information when researching this photographer. Although it is evident his work revolves around 'theatrical' shown in this Vogue edition and through previous editions from December 2011 'Grace and Flavour' UK Vogue and May 2011 'Forget Me Not' UK Vogue.
