Red! The focus point from today's lecture.

Although this isn't just about colour. Red symbolises passion & love to aggression & power. From different cultures such as India the most symbolic and powerful off all, red stands for fear and fire, wealthy and purity, fertility, seduction and beauty. Most often red symbolises good fortune and courage. So no wonder Red is officially the colour of fall 2017.

A lady in red is always loved. Especially by designers including Valentino who embraces red and became known for his red dresses in the bright shade that simply became known as Valentino Red. According to him, it is the only colour that is worthy enough of competing with black and white. Why? Red is deep, strong and dramatic.

So what is the history of Red? In the 17th Century France, red was the colour of power as it was associated with palaces and Versailles. It almost seems to obvious with its powerful connotations that red is of lust, rage and blood.

Getting to the point of fashion choices, the red hat is a cerebral gesture and is of a intellectual stand whereas the typical red cloak seems to be a romantic gesture. This is of emotional stand. Yet when this is worn from head to toe, red dials up the volume. This leans towards romance and glamour. The typical red shoe is quite flirtatious and in fact can be very memorable to some. As we already know red calls out to us seductively so it's hard to us to forget a vivid sight. So when it comes to a red garment, there is no disagreeing that this really is the end of the exclamation point.

The patterns of red, the choice of material and textures. Why have designers chosen to create patterns and what do they mean? First thing first is about stripes. Stripes are always in style especially as they took on a role this spring. So what does this mean when red is involved? Well it may seem very 'candy' like. It is symbolising the sweet and delightful taste that makes the bold stripe endless. I don't think stripe after stripe may never get old especially in a vivid, bold red.

In comparison with the stripe, the lace is far from sweet. Red lace is highly sexual and seductive. Dolce and Gabbana is the perfect example for red lace. D&G is feminine and playful so the red lace dress of course is sensual.

Polka dots! How fun and whimsy it is to dress this style and get away with passing this off. Although chances are you were dressed in polka dots as a child.

The different shades of red. Both historical and contemporary, the 'vibrant' red has a big impact on a garment and power as it's so dynamic. It shows you to

have confidence. Enables you to look artistic and vivid. So when wearing this kind of red, you'll probably be the most memorable in the room. How about joining two layers of colour together. Like the orange red which is considered to be the most thoughtful and creative. I consider this to be worn in summer as it consists of warm tones. A 'brown red' however is more mature to wear. I imagine this to be displayed on suits, smart blazers as the two layers associate more with grown ups. In comparison, coral (pink and red combined) an elegant colour displayed more with women clothing. Like an orange red, this is genuinely worn seasonally during late spring/summer.
